Jesus Christ, Son of God, once again, on this Good Friday, we come and we humbly bow in the shadow of the cross; the cross upon which you died.
Jesus Christ, we adore you, you are our God. You became human, you became one of us to save us from death. You came and laid down your life on that cross of shame so that we could be set free. The shame was not your shame, it was ours. But you took upon yourself our shame, our sin.
And so we are set free, set free from sin, set free from death. We thank-you Jesus, that you shed your precious blood, on that cross to bring us into eternal life, into eternal relationship with you.
Living God, Holy God, Father, we come once more to the foot of the cross. We come once more before the cross and seek forgiveness. We ask for forgiveness for those times when we have thought so little of you. When we have disowned your name.
Living God, Holy God, Father, We come and ask for forgiveness for the times we have strayed, when we have sinned against you.
We come once more to the cross the place of mercy, The Place of atonement, the place where our savior died as our substitute.
Living God, Holy God, Father, we come to the cross and we acknowledge that it was indeed our sin that held you there, our sin held you on that cross until it was accomplished, until atonement was made by your blood. We thank-you, Father, that we are forgiven at the cross; that by your stripes we are healed.
Jesus Christ, we thank-you, that by the cross, it is indeed finished. That we are released from captivity, we are ransomed from sin.
We thank-you, that it is finished, that the price is paid, the costly price was paid for us, once, for all.
We thank-you Jesus, that it is finished; that you thought we were worth the purchase price and that through your death we are yours.
Jesus we pray for the grace that is required to know you. We pray that you would descend upon us by your Spirit. We pray for the filling of the Holy Spirit, The one who brings us more deeply into relationship with you.
Living God, Triune God, we pray that you would help us to serve you. Give us a fervent devotion; give us the passion to live for you, as your people, serving you together in this city.
Help us to be people who serve others the way you served us. Help us to have a heart for the lost, to have a heart that breaks for the pain, sorrow and sin in this world.
Living God, Triune God help us to take up our cross daily and to follow you, follow you into the sufferings of this world.
As we kneel before the cross once more we together pray the prayer that you taught us to pray
Our father who art in heaven
Hallowed be your name
Yoru kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive us our trespasses and we forgive those who trespass against us
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever
Amen
