Computer Lab

Our computer lab was set up in time for the start of the school year in 2008 and we are pleased to offer enough computers to accommodate an entire class. The lab is set up with 24 student computers and two teaching computers.

All student computers are either Pentium 3 or 4, have 17 inch monitors, optical mice, stereo headsets and front USB connections.

All computers are equipped with Microsoft Office and other pertinent software allowing the students to tackle a various number of projects.

The lab also has a surround sound audio system and various wireless technologies.  There is a video projector for teaching demonstrations, presentations, documentaries or movies.  The lab is also equipped with both laser and colour inkjet printers and a scanner is available.

All computers are networked and linked to a high speed internet connection.  We use a server based web filtering system to prevent access to inappropriate materials or social networks.

The lab is multifunctional and can be quickly physically adapted to accommodate different activities.  The room can be used in:

  • workstation mode - where students simply work at the computer workstations,
  • workstation mode with an instructor - students are guided “over the shoulder”,
  • workstations with presenter - a presenting instructor uses large screen projection and guides users through the software on their workstations,
  • presentation mode where the chairs are brought into the middle and the instructor shows software such as PowerPoint or other topics of interest,
  • theatre/entertainment mode where students watch documentaries for educational purposes or a movie just for fun.

Much of the equipment has been donated by the Heritage Bible College, the Baptist Fellowship office and Ingenuity Plus as well as some personal donations from friends and families of Crestwicke Christian Academy.

Google Earth demo.

Each year we open the lab up during the CCA Open House.  There are interactive and live demonstrations by the students showcasing an “out of the box” computer, some fun with Google Earth, Typing & Book Adventures online, text to speech robot demonstrations and voice altering software.

At the last open house, we had a SMART Board demonstration showcasing some of the cool things we can do with this interactive type of learning available to us now.
